Pursuant to Article 3, Section C, of the Bylaws of the West Catholic Alumni Association, the annual general meeting of the Association will be held on Monday May 20, 2013 beginning at 7 PM at the AmVets, Post 118, 270 N. Morton Ave., Morton, PA 19070. 

Pursuant to Article 4, Section B, of the Bylaws of the West Catholic Alumni Association, the purpose of the general meeting will be to elect members of the Board of Governors of the Alumni Association for the term September 1, 2013 through August 31, 2015.  All Members of the Association are eligible to vote in the Alumni Association election and to be elected to the Board of Governors. The Bylaws define “Members” of the Association as: (a) all graduates of West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Boys; (b) all male graduates of West Philadelphia Catholic High School; and (c) all former male students of either school who completed at least one year at either school and whose original class has graduated. All members interested in being elected to the Board of Governors must notify the president, Fran Crowley ’77 by e-mail at crowley@blankrome.com or phone (610-246-1020) no later than May 10, 2013 so that your name may be placed on the ballot.

Pursuant to Article 4, Section K, of the Bylaws of the Alumni Association, an organizational Board Meeting shall be held in June, 2013 at which the newly elected Board shall elect the President, the Executive Vice President, the Vice President for Finance and the Recording Secretary for the term of September 1, 2013 through August 31, 2015. No person shall be elected President, Executive Vice President, Vice President for Finance or Recoding Secretary unless that person shall have served as a Member of the Board for at least one year. At that same organizational Board Meeting, the newly elected President shall appoint, with the approval of the Board, the Vice President for Communication and the Executive Secretary. The Members of Board of Governors of the West Catholic Alumni Association are greatly saddened by the sudden and untimely death of Bishop Joseph P. McFadden, Bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg.  Bishop McFadden will be remembered fondly by the West Catholic Family for his many contributions to West Catholic during his tenure as a teacher, basketball coach and Athletic Director at West Catholic Boys, and for his many subsequent contributions to Catholic Education as a priest and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  More information concerning the life and death of Bishop McFadden may be found at the Diocese of Harrisburg’s web site, http://www.hbgdiocese.org/2013/05/02/death-of-bishop-mcfadden/

The West Catholic Alumni Association asks all Members to remember Bishop McFadden, his brother, sisters, nieces and nephews, as well as the people of the Diocese of Harrisburg in your prayers.

Additionally, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will offer a Memorial Mass for Bishop McFadden on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. That date would have been Bishop McFadden's 66th birthday. All are welcome to attend and additional details regarding that celebration will be forthcoming.

Please continue to pray for the repose of Bishop McFadden's soul and that God may bring comfort to his family and many friends. Thank you.

Congratulations to LASALLE UNIVERSITY and their Sweet 16 Men’s Basketball team. May they never give up the Special Spirit of Tom Gola, former great player and Basketball Coach for the LASALLE Explorers.  While Tom fights a different Battle…He will be there in spirit as the team continues their journey.  Congratulations also go out to All West Catholic High School graduates who continued their studies at a Christian Brothers School, LASALLE UNIVERSITY located at 1900 West Olney Avenue Philadelphia PA 19141.  All connected to LASALLE are extremely proud to be celebrating their 150^th year Anniversary as a Christian Brothers University, (1863-2013).  Next game for the Explorers is scheduled for Thursday night at 10:17 PM versus Wichita State from Staples Center Los Angeles CA.  Be sure to look for the Southwest Philly Floater!
