The 103rd Communion Breakfast Sunday, April 19, 2026
We are now accepting nominations for our 103rd Annual Communion Breakfast Awards taking place on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the Aronimink Golf Club, 3600 St David's Road, Newtown Square, PA 19073 The criteria for the awards traditionally presented at the Communion Breakfast are listed to below, please review the criteria and then submit your nominations.
The general qualifications for nomination of a person for a Communion Breakfast Award are as follows: A nominee must (a) be a person who exemplifies Catholic values and beliefs; (b) be an alum of West Catholic; (c) be a proven “loyal son (or daughter)” of West Catholic; (d) have achieved outstanding success in a chosen field of endeavor; and (e) have contributed significantly to West Catholic in any form.
The Brother Edwin Anselm, FSC Excellence in Catholic Education Award. The award is usually, but not exclusively, given to a Christian Brother.
The Brother Kevin Stanton, FSCLaSallean Profile in Excellence Award. The nominee should be a graduate of a LaSallean-associated secondary school or university. West Catholic High School, West Catholic Prep, Lasalle High School, Hudson Catholic High School, LaSalle University.
Bro. Phillip DePorter, FSC Language Skill Award. The nominee must have achieved excellence in their chosen field using language skills begun at West Catholic.
The Brother D. Aloysius, FSC Award. The Brother G. John Owens, FSC Award. The Brother Martin Strickroth, FSC Award.
Cardinal John O'Connor God and Country Award. The nominee must be an active member or honorable veteran of United States Military service.
George Light Award, William H. McGarvey Award: The nominee must be a person who has embodied the West Catholic Spirit and who was committed to maintaining the West Catholic legacy through their involvement with and support of the Alumni Association.
Margaret Porter '40 Blue & Gold Award. The nominee must be an alumna of West Girls Catholic or West Catholic Prep
Golden Burr Award. The nominee must have achieved outstanding success in athletics and in a chosen field of endeavor.
Bishop John McCort, Archbishop Joe McFadden Catholic Leadership Award. Nominees for the Bishop McCort Award do NOT have to be graduates of West Catholic.
50th Anniversary Golden Burr Award. The nominee must be a member of the 50 year anniversary class of West Catholic (the Class of 1976).
25th Anniversary Silver Burr Award. The nominee must be a member of the 25 year anniversary class of West Catholic (the Class of 2001).
(Note – “West Catholic” includes West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Boys, West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School, West Philadelphia Catholic High School and West Catholic Preparatory High School. References to contributions mean time, effort, non-financial support, etc., and are not meant to be limited to monetary donations. Additionally, the terms “alum”, “alumnus” and “alumna” include men and women who attended West Catholic for at least one year and whose class has graduated. The Association recognizes that, for many reasons, students that started their education at West Catholic may not have been able to complete their four years at West but remain very important members of our West Catholic family!)
