    EDITION # 12                            Spring/Summer  2008

THE WEST PHILADELPHIA CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL FOR BOYS

Class of  1958

From  John J. Gallagher,   Brag Rag Founder and Publisher

A Golden Tribute to our 50th Reunion

Presented to each Attendee-Graduate

(among other “gifts”) ---  This “Retro” Commemorative Varsity Letter

This Program Book was presented to each

attendee which is loaded with memories

and well wishes.

The program book became a great source for our “Class of 1958 Tuition Assistance Program” donation  to the current West Catholic High School Administration.  The advertisements in this Program Book, as well as the generous amounts sent in to our Reunion Committee from our many fellow grads, directly afforded us the opportunity to present Brother Tim a check for  $13,000! !…... and this amount is STILL growing ! !

Please visit our website: http://www.goldenburrs-1958.com in order to view the HUNDREDS of pictures of this historic weekend .

There was a wonderfully large, energetic, and enthusiastic turnout for this historic weekend gathering.  Quite a few grads brought their spouses, and everyone enjoyed the camaraderie freely offered by all .  There were NO strangers once we were finally “face to face”.  We were so happy to once again see other guests from back then…..

Brother F. Azarias (who is now Monsignor James E King – concelebrant of our Sunday Reunion Mass and Liturgy), Brother F. Gregory Cavalier, and Brother Gerald John –“German John” (who is now Mr. Tom Wallace – who also had his wife, Helen, in attendance). We also thank our fellow grads, Brother Steven Casale and Brother Lawrence Dempsey for attending, as well as our other con-celebrant at Sunday’s mass, Reverend Richard McAndrews, & 58’s Deacon John DuBois, as well as Brother Tim Ahern,  President of West Catholic High School.

There were so many events on the program, including:

  1. The golf outing (which was “not to be” due to inclement weather)

  2. The Evening WELCOME RECEPTION  where most of us, dressed casually, enjoyed Philly Cheese Steaks, Tasty Kakes, Philly Pretzels, etc. A wonderful time for basic “introductions”.

  3. The tour of BOTH the current and past facilities known as “West Catholic” (remember to see the pictures on our web site).

  4. The BEAUTIFUL liturgy of the Mass with over 100 in the congregation who also enjoyed a fantastic BRUNCH immediately afterwards.  Wait ‘til you order and see the DVD of ALL events  !

  5. The GALA DINNER DANCE with very short moments from the podium, while we enjoyed  fantastic food and ‘50s music and dancing.

  6. And let’s not forget the after-hours at our 2 nights of Hospitality Suite, which stayed crowded with noise, humor, and general “sharings” until at least 4:30 am.

Once again, please consider ordering the DVD which is not only all inclusive of these weekend events, but also great fun from the two past luncheons where a lot of us speak directly into the camera.  Let me know and I’ll give you the particulars on how to order this great  memento!
